The Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox meet Monday in MLB action at Fenway Park.
The Baltimore Orioles could use a win after losing nine of their last 11 games. The Orioles have allowed 15 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in each of their last 11 games. The Baltimore Orioles are 4-10 this season when allowing four or more runs. Offensively, Trey Mancini leads the Orioles with 21 hits and 12 RBI while Jonathan Villar and Dwight Smith Jr. have combined for 35 hits and 14 RBI. Dan Straily gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 19.29 ERA and zero strikeouts this season. Straily is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts in his career against the Red Sox.
The Boston Red Sox look for a victory after splitting their last 10 games. The Red Sox have scored 15 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 10 games. The Boston Red Sox have split their last eight games when scoring four or more runs. J.D. Martinez leads the Red Sox with 20 hits and nine RBI while Andrew Benintendi and Xander Bogaerts have combined for 33 hits and 14 RBI. Hector Velazquez gets the ball, and he is 0-0 with a 2.79 ERA and nine strikeouts this season. Velazquez is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA and 10 strikeouts in his career against the Orioles.
The Orioles are 3-7 in their last 10 during game 4 of a series, 19-47 in their last 66 vs. American League East and 5-15 in their last 20 Monday games. The Red Sox are 12-3 in their last 15 during game 4 of a series, 39-16 in their last 55 home games and 4-9 in their last 13 overall. The Orioles are 3-9 in the last 12 meetings in Boston and 6-20 in the last 26 meetings. The over is 27-11-2 in Red Sox last 40 overall. The over is 11-5-1 in Orioles last 17 road games.
The Boston Red Sox aren’t playing as consistent as you’d like, but they’ve found their offensive rhythm over the last week and have a history of beating up on the Baltimore Orioles, often winning in blowout fashion. This is a very early start, so weird things could happen, but I’m not giving the O’s a chance with Straily on the mound. Straily has given up 13 hits and 10 runs in just 4.2 innings of work this season and was about just as bad in his two seasons with the Miami Marlins. Straily is a homer machine and often gets blasted. I’ll take the Red Sox and the RL.
